Do you Google yourself?

Have you ever Googled yourself? Do you know what profiles you have in the Cyberworld? How are people going to perceive you if they do a search? The challenge - is how you have fun with your social and networking sites and manage the content so that it reflects your professional life or at least doesn't give people the wrong perception about you. How do you do it?

I Google myself reasonably regularly to check what is coming up against my name and what my 'online personal brand' consists of to anyone as an initial snapshot.

I've been online for years in a professional capacity so my Google results go on for 5-10 pages and reflect a vast amount of work, projects, associations and training.

Because it's strongly oriented to our lifestyle site's audience and interests, I choose to keep my MySpace 'work' profile separate and anonymous from my 'findable' search results on Facebook, LinkedIn and multiple links to work projects and pages.

Since the beginning of the web and the onslaught of social networking in recent years, I've thought ahead to what kind of information I DON'T want to broadcast to the entire globe. And made sure I don't post it up online!

It is a really smart thing to do. Frankly, the amount of information about a person that is available on the net, particularly someone that is in the Marketing and Communication space is amazing.

It is important to realise that potential clients or employees may be looking at your profiles. Would you want them to know your inner most secrets?

I also regularly google my name to ensure my personal brand is not being compromised.

I'm very careful with information i posted on the internet, whether it be via my facebook or twitter feeds, on a public forum and basically any information that could possible find it's way onto a search engine, and with SEO the way it is these days, that's almost anything!
