PR and Marketing people.........
It is becoming clearer to me that advertising on the Internet using traditional mediums such as Seek, Monster, My Career and most other job Boards are not providing the talent that it was several years ago. Medium's such as LinkedIn and Facebook seem to be tapping into a new wave of PR and Marketing people who are passively looking for work opportunities. How are you looking for work or staff in this day and age?

Hi Sue
I think that word of mouth is the one of the strongest "recruitment agents" around at the moment. Having spent time on both sides of the fence (looking for staff and now looking for work myself), I rely heavily on my friends and associates to scout for me. I trust when they say that they know a company is good or they went to univ with so and so...
I think that the whole landscape is shifting and sites and services like LinkedIn and The Ladders are strongly coming onstream. Facebook's 'real name' format makes it a very viable option for recruiters I expect and they have a ton of groups emerging that are business-focused.
The web has definitely cornered a huge slice of the job market, the recruiters are still doing a roaring trade, but are now using the web as one of their first points of contact in a candidate-short market. Why advertise just for local candidates when the world is waiting?
Absolutely, however what we are finding at the moment is that job seekers are extending their social netwworks from poeple they know, to their LinkedIn, bebo and facebook contacts and groups. It acts as a third party endorsement so the perception is that the candidate feels more comfortable.

Hi Sue
The landscape is moving - fast. We are enjoying the change as provides challenge and opportunity for the PR services we offer.
We are using social media sites not just as the source of candidates but increasingly more to understand candidates.
What are the candidates passions? What are they really interested in? Who are their networks?
It provides greater insight for questioning during interviews.
